Welcome To Abbott Elementary School... Home of the Roadrunners
Welcome...Welcome to our school! Our goal is to ensure that all our students receive a solid academic foundation that will propel them as they progress through middle and high school so that they can graduate from high school prepared for college and a career. Our teachers, administrators, other staff and volunteers devote countless hours each year to providing our students with a solid education in a nurturing environment. We are proud of the programs we have that support students. We are especially excited about the new districtwide plan to improve achievement. Our teachers and administration are joining others from across the district to align our curriculum to the California state standards so that our students experience the best education possible. We encourage you to become an active member of our school community. Working together, our students can experience the highest quality education. The WAIT IS OVER... THE CST IS HERE!I Pledge to Do My Best on the STAR Test!
When you work on being a great student and the best person you can be, it is helpful to write out goals and pledges to help you remember what you are working for, and what you need to do to reach your goals. You will be taking some tests which are important for you, your parents, and your school. It is important that you try your very best on these tests. Abbott School believes in you!
I pledge to do my best when working on the STAR test.
I will do my best by: Getting a good night sleep every night Eating a good breakfast Listening and following directions carefully Reading all directions, questions, and answers carefully Answering all questions Not rushing through the test Going back and checking my answers after finishing the test Working quietly and not disturbing others IT'S TIME TO SHOW WHAT YOU KNOW! First Annual Abbott Jazz Festival
Abbott Elementary Welcomes Mr. Washington Irving Rucker
In honor of African American History Month, the Abbott Elementary PTA hosted a jazz festival featuring legendary jazz and gospel drummer Mr. Washington Rucker. Mr. Rucker has been performing for over thirty years and has played with such greats as Maxine Welton, Stevie Wonder, Joe Williams, Nancy Williams and Dizzy Gillespie. His gospel performances include sessions with James Cleveland, Linda Hopkins and Billy Preston. He plays throughout LA at prominent churches such as West Angeles and Agape and also teaches a master class at USC School of Music. Mr. Rucker, together with his fellow musicians, introduced our scholars to the history and evolution of jazz as a distinctive American art form. From ragtime, swing, and bebop, to boogie woogie and cool jazz, Mr. Rucker led our scholars on a spectacular musical adventure. It is with full hearts that we graciously thank Mr. Rucker and his fellow musicians for their dedication to the academic and cultural development of our children and the greater Abbott community. Abbott Elementary School, in concert with the LUSD Special Education Department, is celebrating and showing our appreciation for our students with special needs. It is our desire to foster higher levels of understanding, empathy, and acceptance between all students. To this end, we have developed the "Abbott Special Needs Awareness Ribbon." The Abbott Special Needs Awareness Ribbon, comprised of puzzle pieces adorned in Abbott blue and gold, represents our steadfast solidarity with families of special needs children. The brightness of this awareness ribbon is a beacon of confidence; confidence that through compassion, determination, and hard work, Abbott Scholars with special needs will be academically proficient, gainfully employed and socially well-adjusted, thus fostering postsecondary and career success.
